How do I use Apple Health with Propulsion?
Apple Health is the central integration for all iPhone users. It works as a hub that aggregates data from your iPhone, your Apple Watch, and dozens of iOS apps, all transmitted to Propulsion.
Connecting Apple Health to Propulsion
Requirements
- iPhone with iOS 14 or later
- Propulsion app installed from the App Store
- Apple's Health app (installed by default on iPhone)
Steps
- Open Propulsion on your iPhone
- Tap your avatar at the top left, then Settings (the gear at the top right)
- Open the Activity tracking tab
- Tap Connect next to Apple Health
- In the iOS permissions window, select the data to share:
- Steps and walking/running distance
- Exercise minutes
- Active calories
- Heart rate
- Recorded workouts
- Tap Allow
Once connected, your data from the past 30 days is imported automatically.
Connect only one source at a time: if another source was already connected (including the pedometer), disconnect it first.
Sync frequency
For now, your data syncs when you open Propulsion. Open the app at least once a day, and before a challenge ends, so all your activity counts.
Compatible devices and apps via Apple Health
If you use one of the devices or apps below, enable its sync to Apple Health first, then connect Apple Health to Propulsion.
Watches and trackers
| Device | How to enable Apple Health sync |
|---|---|
| Apple Watch | Automatic. See the Apple Watch guide for activity rings and supported models |
| WHOOP (4.0, 5.0) | WHOOP app → More → App Settings → Integrations → Apple Health |
| Oura Ring (Gen 3, 4) | Oura app → ☰ → Settings → Data sharing → Apple Health |
| Polar (Pacer, Vantage, Ignite…) | Polar Flow → More → General settings → Apple Health |
| Suunto (9, Race, Vertical…) | Suunto app → Settings → Services → Apple Health |
| Withings (ScanWatch, Steel HR, Move) | Health Mate → Profile → Partners → Apple Health |
| Coros (APEX, PACE, VERTIX) | COROS app → Profile → Settings → Third-party apps → Data sync → Apple Health |

Data sent to Propulsion
- Daily steps and distance
- Active exercise minutes
- Active calories
- Recorded activities (type, duration, distance, HR)
- Heart rate
Handling duplicates
If you use both Apple Health and another integration (for example Garmin and Apple Health), duplicate activities may appear. Disable one of the two sources: tap your avatar at the top left, then Settings (the gear at the top right), then the Activity tracking tab.
Check permissions
Apple never tells an app that read access was denied: if a category is off, Propulsion simply sees "no data" and can't show an error. So check it yourself:
- Open the Health app.
- Tap your profile picture (or your initials) at the top right.
- Under Privacy, tap Apps, then Propulsion.
- Tap Turn On All, or turn on at least Steps, Walking + Running Distance, Exercise Minutes, Workouts, Active Energy and Heart Rate.
- Open Propulsion with your phone unlocked: Health data can't be read while the iPhone is locked.
Changes apply right away, with no need to reconnect Apple Health.
If your watch or app goes through Health
A watch or app from another brand (WHOOP, Oura, Polar, Strava and others) must be allowed to write to Health, otherwise its data never gets there, and Propulsion can't see it.
- In Health, in the same place (Privacy → Apps), tap that app's name.
- Turn on its categories (steps, workouts, active energy, heart rate).
- Also check that Apple Health sync is turned on in the app itself (see the table above).
If everything is on and nothing arrives, turn Propulsion's categories off, then back on. As a last resort, uninstall and reinstall Propulsion.
For other possible causes, see My device is connected but I don't see any data: what should I do?.
Troubleshooting
Steps not syncing?
- Check that Propulsion's categories are turned on in the Health app (see Check permissions above)
- Make sure step tracking is enabled on your iPhone
- Force quit and reopen the Propulsion app
Data stops after a few days?
Open Propulsion: your data arrives when the app is open.
Privacy
Propulsion only accesses aggregated physical activity metrics. Your detailed health data (ECG, clinical results) is never transmitted. Your activity data is not shared with your employer without your explicit consent.
