Virgin Pulse (Personify Health) alternatives in Canada in 2026: a comparison for employers

In short: Virgin Pulse has been called Personify Health since February 2024 and now combines wellbeing with health plan administration. For a Canadian company, alternatives compare on three criteria: French in the app, data hosted in Canada and a contract that fits its size. Propulsion, TELUS Health Wellbeing, Dialogue, Wellable, Vantage Fit, YuMuuv and GoJoe meet different needs.

Key takeaways
  • Virgin Pulse merged with HealthComp and has been called Personify Health since February 2024.
  • In Canada, the platform often came through an insurer or distributor, such as Teachers Life or MCI Onehealth.
  • Three criteria separate the alternatives: French in the app, data hosting and the contract.
  • Few vendors publish a full price: compare the total first-year cost.
  • Propulsion hosts health data in Canada; at Fromagerie Bergeron, 78.8% of employees took part.

Virgin Pulse was long one of the best-known wellness platforms among HR teams. The name is gone, though: in February 2024, the company merged with HealthComp and is now called Personify Health. For a Canadian employer still using the tool, or seeing it cited in a comparison, the question becomes simple: does the offer still fit an organization here?

This comparison presents seven alternatives, each with one verified fact and one limitation to know about. Propulsion is on the list: we say so openly, and every option is assessed against the same criteria. Facts were verified in October 2026, on vendor websites or in trade press. Offers change, so confirm them in a demo.

What happened to Virgin Pulse?

Virgin Pulse and HealthComp closed a merger valued at US$3 billion in November 2023, then adopted the Personify Health name in February 2024. The new company brings wellbeing, health navigation and health plan administration onto a single platform. It said it was reaching more than 18 million people at the time (source: MobiHealthNews).

In Canada, Virgin Pulse often came through a partner rather than directly. In 2021, Teachers Life became the first Canadian life insurer to offer the platform to its members (source: Insurance Canada). In 2022, MCI Onehealth began distributing it to Canadian businesses as MCI Wellness Connect (source: MCI Onehealth announcement). If your access comes through an insurer or distributor, ask them what changes.

Three criteria specific to Canadian employers

  • French in the app: a translated website is not enough. Check the language of the app itself, its notifications and its content. Bilingual workforces are common across the country, and in Quebec the Charter of the French Language also governs employer communications with staff.
  • Data hosting: activity and mood data are personal information. PIPEDA generally applies outside Quebec; in Quebec, the provincial private-sector act, as amended by Law 25, applies instead and requires a privacy impact assessment before that data is communicated outside Quebec.
  • Contract and currency: user minimums, commitment length, implementation fees and US dollar billing change the real cost, especially for organizations under 250 employees.

The alternatives one by one

Propulsion: team challenges and a bilingual year-round program

What it does
A Canadian team challenge and wellness platform, in English and French. Employees join challenges (steps, active minutes, distance, points), health campaigns and mood check-ins; HR follows a health-performance index and can offer a wellness account topped up based on participation. Health data is hosted in Canada and the employer only sees team averages.
Verified fact
At Fromagerie Bergeron, 78.8% of the 300 employees, spread across day, evening and night shifts, took part (see the case study). The platform is ISO/IEC 27001 certified and its SOC 2 Type II audit is in progress.
Limitation
Propulsion offers neither counselling nor virtual care, nor health plan administration. Above 250 employees, pricing is custom, after a demo.

TELUS Health Wellbeing: wellbeing from a major Canadian provider

What it does
TELUS Health's digital platform with challenges and goals, rewards, a leaderboard, a real-time wellbeing assessment and connections to watches and apps (source: TELUS Health employer page).
Verified fact
It builds on Sprout, acquired by TELUS Health in March 2022; the announcement planned an offer for Canadian employers in English and French (source: TelecomTV).
Limitation
The employer page states neither the app's current languages nor where data is hosted. Ask for both in writing.

Dialogue: virtual care and EAP

What it does
Virtual care (physical and mental health), an employee assistance program and wellbeing resources, based in Montreal.
Verified fact
Sun Life announced its acquisition of Dialogue in July 2023, at a total equity value of $365 million. Dialogue then had nearly 2.8 million members across 50,000 organizations (source: Insurance Business Canada).
Limitation
The offer centres on access to care and individual support; team challenges and collective engagement are not its core.

Wellable: the US all-in-one platform

What it does
A US platform based in Boston: 40+ customizable challenges, on-demand classes and a rewards component (source: Wellable pricing page).
Verified fact
Wellable requires at least 25 users, a one-year term renewing annually and implementation fees. On the App Store, the app is offered in English and Spanish.
Limitation
No French in the app, and data hosting is not stated. Our Wellable alternatives comparison covers the offer in detail.

Vantage Fit: multi-activity

What it does
A challenge app that tracks 65 activity types, with French and Canadian French in its language settings (source: Vantage Fit website).
Verified fact
Its pricing page publishes a price for 200 employees: US$1,600 for a four-week challenge on the basic plan.
Limitation
Prices are only published for 200 employees, and compliance (ISO 27001, SOC 2) is shown as badges, without detail or hosting location.

YuMuuv: variety of formats

What it does
A European team challenge app with 18 challenge types and connections to Apple Health, Garmin, Polar, Suunto and more (source: YuMuuv website).
Verified fact
Its pricing page allows billing in Canadian dollars, based on registered participants and challenge length.
Limitation

GoJoe: large organizations

What it does
A UK activity challenge platform aimed at organizations of 500 to 100,000+ employees, with 80+ weighted activities (source: GoJoe website).
Verified fact
It shows ISO 27001 certification and GDPR compliance.
Limitation
Prices are not published, and the languages offered are not named.

Switching platforms without losing momentum: 4 decisions

1. Find the renewal date

Look up the contract length and the required notice. If access comes through your insurer or a distributor, the decision is often made at your group plan renewal: plan the transition a few months ahead.

2. Keep what you actually use

Request an export of the aggregated data you use to steer the program (participation, usage rate, challenge results). Individual employee data does not need to follow: our guide to anonymous, aggregated wellbeing data explains why.

3. Announce the change to employees

A new app means a new account. Explain why you are switching, what employees gain and what the employer can (and cannot) see of their data.

4. Relaunch with a short challenge

A first team challenge of two to four weeks rebuilds momentum faster than launching every feature at once. The turnkey challenge catalogue offers ready-to-launch formats.

The Propulsion model

Propulsion addresses the need for a turnkey year-round program in English and French, for organizations across Canada. The phone counts steps; Apple Health, Samsung Health, Garmin and more connect; active minutes can be added manually. Organizations run the year's turnkey challenges or create their own in the portal, and a wellness account can be topped up based on participation.

Health data is hosted in Canada, the platform is ISO/IEC 27001 certified and compliant with Law 25, and its SOC 2 Type II audit is in progress. Employees are active in less than two weeks after the agreement. To try it without an annual commitment, the One-off Challenge starts at $1,200; annual plans start at $225 per month.
