My steps are doubled or too high on Android: what should I do?

Updated October 28, 2026

Your steps in Propulsion seem too high, sometimes almost double the real number? In almost every case, two sources are counting the same walk. Here is how to fix it.

Why you have too many steps

Two situations cause this:

  • Both the phone and the watch are counting. On Android 14 and later, your phone counts your steps in Health Connect, and your watch's app puts its own steps there too. Health Connect keeps a single value based on the order of sources. If that order is set wrong, the total no longer matches your watch.
  • The same watch arrives by two paths. For example, Samsung Health or Garmin connected directly in Propulsion, and Health Connect also containing Samsung Health or Garmin.

1. Set the order of sources in Health Connect

  1. Open Health Connect. On Android 14 and later, search for "Health Connect" in your phone's Settings search. On Android 13 and earlier, open the Health Connect app.
  2. Open the setting that ranks data sources (app priority) for activity.
  3. Put your watch's app first.
  4. If you wear your watch all day, you can also remove your phone from this calculation.

Propulsion reads the Health Connect total, without duplicates, based on this order. The source at the top always has the final say.

2. Stop the phone from counting (optional)

Do you wear your watch all the time? You can stop the phone from counting your steps: in Health Connect, open the devices section, choose your phone and turn off steps.

If you sometimes forget your watch, keep the phone active instead, in last position in the order of sources. It will act as a backup.

3. Keep only one source in Propulsion

Never connect two sources in Propulsion for the same watch.

To check, tap your avatar at the top left, then Settings (Réglages, the gear at the top right), then Activity tracking (Suivi d'activité). Only one source should be marked Connected (Connecté). Before switching, see how to change your source without losing data.

Check the result

  1. In Health Connect, open your activity data and look at today's steps. Compare the total with your watch's app.
  2. Open Propulsion: your steps update when you open the app.
