Google Health (formerly Fitbit) and Pixel Watch: how do I get my steps counted?

Updated October 28, 2026

The Google Health (formerly Fitbit) app replaces the Fitbit app. Propulsion's Fitbit connector is removed on October 30, 2026, because Google is shutting down the old Fitbit connection. A direct Google Health connector is awaiting approval. Until then, your steps go through your phone's health platform: Health Connect on Android, Apple Health on iPhone.

Before you start: your Google account

Your Fitbit account must have been moved to a Google account. If the Google Health app asks you to, follow the transfer steps.

Then check that your steps show up in Google Health. If they don't, Propulsion can't receive them.

On Android: Google Health, then Health Connect

This works for Fitbit watches and trackers, the Pixel Watch and Fitbit Air.

On Android 13 and lower, first install the Health Connect app from the Play Store. On Android 14 and higher, it's already built into the phone.

1. Share Google Health with Health Connect

  1. Open Google Health.
  2. Go to Connections > Partner apps > Sync your favorite health apps, then tap Set up.
  3. Tap Accept, choose the data to share (steps and exercise at minimum), then tap Continue, Allow and Done.

2. Connect Health Connect in Propulsion

  1. In Propulsion, tap your avatar at the top left, then Settings (the gear at the top right), then Activity tracking.
  2. Tap Health Connect, then Connect.
  3. Allow steps and workouts (exercise).

Avoid doubled steps

On Android 14 and higher, the phone also counts your steps. So that Propulsion only counts your watch's steps: in Health Connect, open the setting that ranks data sources (app priority) for activity, then put Google Health first. You can also remove the phone from this calculation. See My steps are doubled on Android.

On iPhone: Google Health, then Apple Health

The Google Health app (version 5.05 and higher) can share your steps with Apple Health. Your iPhone must run iOS 16.4 or later.

  1. Update the Google Health app.
  2. In Google Health, go to Connections > Apps and services > Apple Health, tap Get started, then Agree. Tap Turn All Categories On, then Allow and Done.
  3. In Propulsion, tap your avatar at the top left, then Settings (the gear at the top right), then Activity tracking.
  4. Tap Apple Health, then Connect.

Sharing with Apple Health only covers the last 3 months of history.

The Pixel Watch works with Android only: it doesn't pair with an iPhone.

One source at a time

Only one source can be active in Propulsion. If another source was already connected (for example the old Fitbit connector or Google Fit), disconnect it first (see how to change your source).

Sync

Steps count toward active challenges.

For now, your data arrives when you open Propulsion. Open the app at least once a day, and before a challenge ends, so all your activity counts.

If nothing shows up

  1. First open the Google Health app and check that your steps are there. With a watch, it syncs over Bluetooth: keep Bluetooth on and your device charged.
  2. On Android, check that your steps reach Health Connect: in Health Connect, open your activity data and look at today's steps. If not, redo the sharing step in Google Health.
  3. On iPhone, check that your Google Health steps show up in Apple Health.
  4. Then reopen Propulsion.

For other possible causes, see My device is connected but I don't see any data: what should I do?.

For a workout that wasn't captured, tap the + button at the bottom right of the Propulsion screen (see how).

Your data

Your health data is encrypted in transit and at rest, stored on Canadian servers, and never shared without your permission.
