What are the first steps after creating my account?

Updated October 5, 2026

After you create your account, the app shows you six setup screens. Here is what each one is for.

1. Your privacy comes first

Your employer cannot access your personal activity data. Only anonymous, aggregated statistics are used to measure group participation (for example, total steps by department). Tap I understand to continue.

2. Access to motion data

Without this permission, Propulsion cannot detect your daily steps. After you tap Continue, your phone shows its own request (on iPhone: Motion & Fitness). Allow it so your steps are counted.

3. Connect another app or wearable

Choose where your activity data comes from: your phone (connected by default), Apple (Apple Health), Samsung Health, Fitbit (which also covers the Google Health app on other Android phones) or Garmin. Only one source is active at a time. The phone's pedometer is less reliable, especially on Android, where it only counts while Propulsion is open: connect a source instead. To know which one, see How do I get my steps counted in Propulsion?. You can change this choice at any time.

4. Notifications

Turn them on to get challenge updates, rewards and encouragement. Your phone then shows its system request.

5. Your avatar

Customize it: background color, skin, hair color, hairstyle, beard, body and accessories.

6. All set!

The final screen confirms your account is ready. Tap Start exploring to begin using the app.

Changing your activity source later

Tap your avatar in the top left, then the settings gear in the top right, then the activity tracking tab. For the list of sources, see compatible devices.

Warning: only one activity tracking source is allowed. Changing it may affect your data from the last 7 days and your progress in ongoing challenges. See how to change your source without losing data.

I declined a permission

You can turn it back on in your phone's settings:

  • iPhone, motion: Settings > Privacy & Security > Motion & Fitness > Propulsion
  • iPhone, notifications: Settings > Notifications > Propulsion
  • Android, activity: Settings > Apps > Propulsion > Permissions > Physical activity
  • Android, notifications: Settings > Apps > Propulsion > Notifications
