Google Fit is blocked: how do I connect my steps to Propulsion?

Updated October 28, 2026

Updated October 28, 2026

Google is shutting down Google Fit on December 31, 2026, and new connections are currently blocked. If you see the message "This app is blocked" when you try to connect Google Fit, you did nothing wrong. Existing Google Fit connections still work. Use one of the methods below instead.

On a Samsung Galaxy: Samsung Health

  1. Open Samsung Health (already installed on your phone), finish the setup and accept the Physical activity permission.
  2. Check that your steps show up in Samsung Health.
  3. In Propulsion, tap your avatar at the top left, then Settings (the gear at the top right), then Activity tracking. Tap Connect next to Samsung Health and allow every data type.

Health Connect also works on a Samsung, but the direct Samsung Health connection is still recommended. Choose one or the other, never both.

On another Android (Pixel, Motorola, etc.): Health Connect

Health Connect is Android's health platform, built by Google. It brings together data from your apps and devices in one place, right on your phone. You choose which data each app can read or write.

1. Find Health Connect

Android version Where to find Health Connect
Android 14 and higher Built into the phone: search for "Health Connect" in your phone's Settings search.
Android 13 and lower Install Health Connect from Google Play, then open the Health Connect app.

On Android 14 and higher, the phone counts your steps itself: even without a watch, your steps come in through Health Connect. On Android 13 and lower, the phone alone doesn't count steps: you need an app that writes steps to Health Connect (for example Google Health).

2. Connect Health Connect in Propulsion

  1. In Propulsion, tap your avatar at the top left, then Settings (the gear at the top right), then Activity tracking.
  2. Tap Health Connect, then Connect.
  3. Allow steps and workouts (exercise).

Is Google Fit already connected for you?

Your Google Fit connection keeps working for now: nothing to do right away. Still, plan to switch sources before December 31, 2026:

  1. In Propulsion, open Activity tracking and disconnect Google Fit.
  2. Then connect Health Connect (or Samsung Health on a Samsung).

One source at a time, to avoid duplicates. If you can, switch between two challenges, since changing your source can affect your data from the last 7 days (see how to change your source).

Apps that went through Google Fit

Many apps now write their data to Health Connect instead of Google Fit. What matters is that the app writes your steps there. To check, in Health Connect, open your activity data and look at today's steps.

  • Strava: your Strava GPS workouts arrive through Health Connect if Strava's sharing to Health Connect is turned on. Strava doesn't send steps, so it can't count your steps in Propulsion.
  • Nike Run Club: your workouts arrive through Health Connect; your steps come from your phone or your watch.

Your app doesn't show up in Health Connect? See My app is missing from Health Connect.

For your workouts, tap the + button at the bottom right of the Propulsion screen (see how). Steps can't be added manually in Propulsion.
